Film Review's
I've seem some great films and some pants films in my life so I thought I'd knock up this page to share my views on the films I can remember something about! :)
Hollywood | Hong Kong Films | Godzilla
Mission Impossible 2
Quote of the film:
So, the seqel to what was, surprisingly for Hollywood, a rather complex plotted film. Still I enjoyed every minute of it. This leads me to what must be one of the most linear plotted films ever made and do you know what? This doesn't matter one bit. The lack of complex plots and sub-plots lets you sit back and admire Woo at his best, the man is a legend. There are so many good set pieces and Tom Cruise is very much up to the task. The whole bike chase scene is truly amazing... want brain taxing plot? Don't bother with this. Want amazing Woo action? You got it!
Score: 8/10
The Replacement Killers
Quote of the film:
Chow Yun-Fat's first Hollywood outing which turns out to be a fairly decent film, Chow plays a hitman (hang on that sounds familiar) who gets hired to kill a cop's son, he can't go through with it and is soon on the run from both the cop and the man who hired him. This all ends with Chow shooting the crap out of everyone and saving the day. Hurrah!
Score: 6.5/10
The Killer
Quote of the film:
Supplied by 'The Guvnor'
Chow Yun-Fat plays a Hitman (hang on that sounds familiar) in a film with great plot, great actors, great acting and directed by John Woo... the result? An amazing film only bettered by Hard Boiled. Hitman with a heart Chow accidently blinds a singer on one of his hits, he feels responsible and takes care of her. Little does he know that a cop is on his trail, an inevitable showdown arises when the cop and Chow's past finally catches up with him.
Score: 9/10
A Better Tomorrow II
Quote of the film:
John Woo's fantastic over the top sequel to the acclaimed A
Better Tomorrow. Chow plays the twin of the brother killed in the previous
film (handy that) and when not shooting the crap out of people he cooks rice
and helps out his nutcase friends.
More gun action than you could shake a stick at, with a host of top Hong
Kong names and some of the best set-pieces you'll ever see this is one of
Woo's Classics.
Score: 8/10
Heros shed no tears
Quote of the film:
John... what were you thinking?
Score: 1.5/10
Magical Warriors of Zu Montians
Quote of the film:
Tsui Hark's martial art masterpiece, it truly is bonkers stuff but you can't help but be impressed even after all these years. Demons, colour coded ninja armies and extremely long facial hair.
Score: 8/10
Once a Thief
Quote of the film:
Woo and Chow join forces to produce a classic gangster comedy, and of course its got lots of guns and shooting! Chow is one of a trio of art thieves who bite off more than they can chew..
Score: 8/10
Wild Search
Quote of the film:
Ringo Lam directs and Chow Yun-Fat stars in this retelling of Peter Weir's 'Witness'. Chow plays a copwho has to protect a witness (surprisingly) from a bastich psycho killer, sounds good to me... and for most parts it is!
Score: 7/10
Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla
Quote of the film:
The first epic battle between Godzilla and his evil metal counterpart, this Godzilla flick has lots of classic moments... the best one has to be when King Ceasar's ears prick up... trust me watch it drunk and you will laugh! I promise! What can I say about the film... Godzilla fights and things get crushed and mashed, oh and there is some plot involving aliens trying to take over the world and kidnapped scientists and ancient mythology...
Score: 7.5/10
Godzilla Vs Hedorah
Quote of the film:
What the hell was this all about? It really is... far out! Basically it's an arsefest of a plot, humans are treating the world like crap, lots of pollution, lots of hippy chicks and cool dudes. I think the script writters were whacked out on some funky shit and it must of been good shit too. Anyway, the pollution forms this evil monster known as Hedorah, lots of fights ensue and generally Godzilla loses. What's this, the humans help godzilla win? Godzilla flies? Yes, it's all a pile of pants and yet, it's great.
